Tanning Tips

Pre Tan Preparation:
Shower, exfoliate, and remove body hair 24 to 8 hours before your tanning session and avoid Dove brand products. We recommend using clear gels soaps or non moisturizing bar soaps.  Your skin should be clean and dry before being sprayed and therefore do not apply moisturizers, deodorants, antiperspirants, oils or makeup before your tanning appointment being they can effect tan development.  Wear loose shoes and dark easily cleaned clothing to appointment and bring a dark snug inexpensive swimsuit or under garment to create your tan line.

Bring a towel to cover car seats being they can stain and never wear any garments made from wool, lycra, nylon, spandex, silk and leather being they can stain.  Style your hair in a hairclip or high tail so it will be off your face and neck and then remove all contact lens and jewelry prior to being sprayed.  You will not be able to swim, sweat, bath or exercise for at least 6 to 8 hours so plan accordingly.  If it is raining, bring an umbrella.

After Tan Care:
Wear dark loose fitting clothing for 6 to 8 hours while your tan develops and do not exercise, sweat, swim or bathe for 6 to 8 hours.  You can shower normally using a shower poof with a mild shower moisturizing gel but do not use exfoliates or abrasives and be sure to pat, don’t rub skin dry.  Some color can wash off in the shower and this would be an excess solution and the color guide tint but don’t worry, you will still have a bronze tan developed into skin.  Apply a moisturizer to shower damp skin or you can use an extender lotion, make sure to scrub palms after use with bar soap and a nail brush.  Moisturize again before bed if needed and apply moisturizer once to twice daily but only apply extender once a day or every other day being they can cause skin dryness and fading.  Avoid exfoliating skin being some products can cause faster fading like bar soaps, alcohol based products such as toners and astringents.

Maintaining your Tan:
To maintain your tan make sure that your skin is always moisturized.  Your tan can  last from 7 to 10 days but using the wrong products can fade your tan faster.  The following is a list of commonly used body care products that can have a detrimental effect (lighten or blotchy) on your airbrush tan.  This is not all-inclusive and not everyone will have a problem with these items therefore it’s only intended as a guide.

Anti-acne products that exfoliate or dry the skin (Accutane and Salicylic acid) can affect tan fading and skin peels which can look unacceptable.  Antibiotics or other medications that affect your skin can also affect your tan and a women’s tan may develop differently during various hormonal changes such as ovulation, menstruation or pregnancy which may lead to streaky, patchy, fade worse or produce a lighter or no color.  Hair Inhibiting Lotions (Jergens etc.) tend to make a sunless tan yellow.  Band-Aid or adhesive tape applied to skin or Bore type adhesive facial strips or ?peel-off? facial masks will pull off the tan.

Bar soaps, especially deodorant or antibacterial varieties (Dove/Dove Shower gel), Curl lotions and body hair bleach products will bleach the tan but non bleach skin lighteners are fine.  Bug spray, perfumes, body sprays when sprayed directly onto skin can remove or fade the tan therefore spray clothing or spray a “cloud” that you can walk through.  Anti-aging products that “renew/refresh” or otherwise exfoliate skin and any product containing AHA products (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), Glycolic, Lactic, Malic, Citric, Tartaric acids and BHA Products (Beta Hydroxy Acids), salicylic acid.  If you exercise and sweat heavily your tan can fade faster, especially in body fold areas like arm bends, knee bends and between breasts, etc.).
